Environmental Health & Safety Standard Operating Procedure Templates

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Template Library

The following SOP templates can be used to create laboratory specific SOPs for individual hazardous chemicals, hazardous chemical groups, processes or procedures. Fill out each section of the SOP completely by adding appropriate information requested by the prompts or filling in the required fields, depending on the type of template selected. Additional information may be required beyond what is indicated. Consult the chemical manufacturer’s safety data sheet (SDS) for other important information that may need to be included on the SOP.

Each individual in the lab shall be trained on the SOP and sign and date it where indicated. SOPs are part of a lab’s written chemical hygiene plan (CHP) and shall be readily available.

The following chemical specific SOP templates have been developed by WSU EH&S to aid lab personnel. Remember that these are only templates and they require each section to be customized with lab-specific information.

The following list is not intended to be a comprehensive inventory of chemicals in use at WSU but rather a resource for lab personnel. More chemical specific SOP templates will be added as they are created. If you would like assistance developing an SOP, please contact EHS at 335-3041.
