Environmental Health & Safety Control of Hazardous Energy

Departments that repair, service, set-up, and maintain fixed-wired equipment should have a written Control of Hazardous Energy Program (Lockout/Tag Out).  The purpose of the program is to de-energize and lockout the equipment’s energy sources to prevent injury caused by unexpected equipment start-up.

Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) has developed a program template to assist departments in developing a program.  To complete the written program: carefully read each section and fill-in the required information.

Training

Employees repairing, servicing, setting-up, and maintaining equipment should receive training on the department’s program.  Supervisors can use the resources below to provide the training or contact OH&S for assistance.
