Machine Safety

Machines and equipment create a number of safety concerns including points of operation (e.g., cutting), nip and shear points, rotating and revolving parts, reciprocating parts, and flying objects. Occupational Health & Safety provides information and training in the safe operation, guarding, inspection, and maintenance of machine and tools.

Departments that remove guards to repair, service, set-up, and maintain fixed-wired equipment should have a written Control of Hazardous Energy Program (Lockout/Tag Out).

Training

Departments are responsible to train employees to safely operate machines and equipment according to the manufacturer’s operations manual.
