Environmental Health & Safety Fume Hoods
Fume hoods are used to mitigate exposures to chemicals through engineering controls. They are an important safety component to any laboratory handling chemicals. Fume hoods are tested annually by Facilities Operations to assure minimum flow requirements are met and that they are functioning correctly, in addition there prudent work practices must be followed to ensure air flow is not impeded.
The Laboratory Safety Manual has information on the proper use of fume hoods.

Environmental Health & Safety will provide, upon request, an evaluation of fume hood/exhaust hood needs in a laboratory and training in the correct use of chemical fume hoods.
